Presize

Presize

Essilor's remote edging service

Presize, Essilor's highly accurate and cost-effective remote edging system, allows you to order lenses precisely cut to shape and size so you simply have to fit the lenses into the frame. Presize uses a PHI or TESS tracer to accurately trace the frame and our Linx ordering system to send the prescription and glazing information directly to Essilor. The lenses will be delivered ready-edged for you to mount into your patient's frame.

Easy ordering

Once the patient has chosen their frame, you simply enter their prescription details into Linx and trace the frame. The information is then sent and, once the order is received, the majority of stock lenses and single process RX lenses are cut within a day and four to five working days for most RX lenses, reducing the time it takes for your patients to receive their spectacles.

Precise

All lenses are edged to specific standards and the possibility of expensive edging errors is removed. All Essilor materials can be processed so you can offer your customers a wide choice of materials.

Frames

  • All re-edges are carried out at your own risk
  • Essilor will not be held responsible for any breakage to own frames.

Lens thickness

In order to guarantee stability we produce lenses to specific minimum thickness criteria:

  • Nylon - 1.8mm edge thickness at thinnest point
  • In Line Metal -2.2mm edge thickness at thinnest point
  • Rimless - minimum edge thickness at drill hole is optimised to ensure lens safety, security of fit and overall product integrity

These are our recommendations on minimum lens thickness; however it can be amended depending on individual job requirements. Please contact your local laboratory for more information.

Precal

Optimal Thickness for All Lenses

Precal is a lens calculation process which predetermines the thickness of an edged lens, based on lens and frame shape, prescription and centration. Precal calculates the minimum centre thickness to which a lens can be surfaced to provide the thickness appropriate to the lens/mount combination.

Ordering Using Actual Edged Shape

  1. Provide full prescription

    • Lens type
    • Prescription
    • Tints and/or coatings
    • Frame type or edge thickness
  2. Shape outline

Draw around former or edged lens with point of pen inclined inwards to ensure outline is true size and shape.

  3. Centration

Quote right and left monocular PDs. Quote right and left fitting heights measured from the HCL (old datum) or tangent to lower edge of lens.

  4. Frame details

State frame type or quote the lens edge thickness required at the thinnest point, no less than 1mm. If no edge thickness is quoted for a rimless frame we will automatically aim to ensure 2mm or 2.5mm at drill holes depending on lens material. Essilor gives a minimum edge thickness of 1.8mm for Nylon Frames.

You may also order Precal by telephone by quoting the lens type, prescription and coatings etc accompanied by:

  • A standard shape number
  • The A box measurement
  • The B box measurement
  • The boxed minimum distance between lenses
  • The thinnest glazed edge requirement or frame type e.g. metal, plastic, nylon, rimless

TIP When it is difficult to clearly define the shape by number, shape No.7, (a rectangular shape with rounded corners) or shape No.5, (an oval shape) have been found to give consistently good results.
