A totally new design for the smallest frames
Varilux performance in shallow frames. Esillor's achievement with Varilux Ellipse has been to design a varifocal with the shortest effective progression length, without sacrificing the visual performance of the lens. Through the use of power asymmetry and variable designs changing with addition and power, Essilor has been able to design a lens that gives good binocular balance and genuine visual comfort in a small frame.
Small frame wearers use their spectacle lenses differently
The height/width ratio of small frames is greater than that of standard frames and the use of shallower lenses impacts on the visual behaviour of wearers.
Small frame wearers tend to lower their gaze less and make greater downward head movements. They tend to make full use of the entire width of the lens.
Physiological and visual behaviour studies from Essilor Research & Development made it possible to better understand the visual behaviour of small-frame wearers so that a varifocal lens that perfectly respects these physiological requirements could be developed.
