Essilor introduces Varilux® 360°™ Series

13 January 2009 Filed under: What's New? Press Releases

In February Essilor Australia's local digital surfacing (DS) capabilities will be used to broaden the Varilux product portfolio manufactured in Australia, using this advanced process. Varilux 360°™ Series provides a wider portfolio of DS products than ever before giving practitioners greater choice across all levels of progressive designs.

"Traditional production techniques can't generate the detailed surfaces possible with DS. Historically practitioners have always wanted 'best form' lenses for their patients, this is now possible across the Varilux 360° Series," says Anne Guethoff, Varilux Product Manager.

A Varilux product earns the name 360° by using three separate areas of Essilor technology: progressive design, optical calculation software and Essilor's Advanced Digital Surfacing™ The progressive design is critical regardless of how the lens is surfaced, hence tried and trusted products are enhanced using the next two steps. Rather than a simple algorithm, the patented calculations for a 360° lens "map" the front surface creating an optimal prescription surface for every Rx. None of this is possible without specific digital production machinery for both surfacing and polishing. The Essilor Technology Centre is one of only 5 production facilities world wide with a superior set up like this. Over the last years, Essilor has invested heavily into providing digital surfacing to the local market.

"Varilux Comfort and Ellipse are amongst the most trusted progressives in Australia, adding them to the 360° Series brings the benefit of digital surfacing to more practices and to the patients who are already happy with these current Varilux designs." underlines Anne Guethoff.

Varilux Physio 360° will also have its range extended with the arrival of Varilux Physio 360° Short, completing a portfolio with distinct levels, Core, Performance and Elite, with Varilux Ipseo 360° being the brands flagship.

"With the Varilux 360° Series available in February, practitioners will find out very quickly the features and benefits of this exciting new portfolio," concludes Anne Guethoff.
